Alice Braga talks about 'On the Road' with CanalBrasil (Brazil)

Reporter: ...and in her next movie, that we will see in theaters but has no definite release date, is the adaptation Walter Salles is doing of the book “On the Road” by Jack Kerouac.

Alice Braga: Exactly.

Reporter: What can you say about that? The filming finished and it’s now in post production.

Alice Braga: Exactly.

Reporter: It’s planned to be released next year but the date is not set. How was it?

Alice Braga: It was wonderful because it’s a project that many people have tried to do. Coppola, the owner of the rights of the book, has had it for many years. And a lot people tried. Marlon Brando, many...Sean Penn, Johnny Depp...lots of people tried putting the project together. But it never happened.

And Walter always dreamt about it. Walter started on it 5 years ago. He made a documentary about “On the Road”.

And it was wonderful because it has an international cast Amy Adams, Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, who made that movie about Joy Division, Control & it has Steve Buscemi...it has so many people...I could talk and talk.

My character's name is called Terry. She’s a Mexican girl who lives on the border of the US in an era where the US was asking for Latin American workers to work in the south, in the cotton farms. And the character of Jack Kerouac, who is Sal Paradise, meets her on a bus. He’s traveling by himself, they start to talk...and he’s “on the road’ letting whatever happen. She shows him where she lives. They have a love affair and then he continues on the road like all the characters.

...and of course working with Walter Salles...it was wonderful.

Loosely translated from the Portuguese video interview (starting at 11:11mins).
